The Age of Aerospace

Discovery Channel / Boeing

The Age of Aerospace explores the last 100 years of aviation history in unprecedented detail. Working alongside Boeing and "The Documentary Group", I was tasked with the architecture and visual design of a global streaming experience that showcased the 8 full episodes of the documentary "The Age of Aerospace". The website, which has been fully translated into 17 languages, is made up of interactive videos and over 300 pages of interactive content. The project has garnered the recognition of prestigious awards such as The Webby Awards, the iab mixx awards and the Digiday Awards.

Digital Streaming Experience

The objective of the site was to quickly engage viewers with the video content. For this reason, our main goal was to design a very direct entry page where the main call to action was to "start" watching an episode or "resume" where you left of.

Due to video rights, each full episode had to be split into a number of chapters. For this reason, we decided to develop the experience in a way where we seemlessly transitioned from one chapter to another, giving the effect to the user that they were watching one entire episode. While watching video, we engaged viewers with an interactive experience where they could choose to dive deeper into content while never leaving the video. Easy to use ways to navigate between episodes were also built right from the video player.

Interactive Content Library

While users were watching the video, they could engage with a vast library of related content. We designed an built a series of interactive templates that we would string together to form a "topic" around a particular story in the video. Users could scroll/swipe down and browse through all topics while never leaving the video.

Animated Illustrations

Infographic illustrations were designed and animated to be used throughout the interactive content.
